Nokia N8 Camera Software Update Brings 30fps Video Recording and Continuous Auto-focus
The Nokia N8 is a pretty old ‘smartphone’, technology wise. However, the 12MP Carl Zeiss camera at the back of the phone is still unmatched by any other mobile phone in the industry. In fact, the N8 is more popularly known as a camera with phone functionalities, than a smartphone.
Many die-hard N8 owners requested the company to add some more features and settings to the camera interface via a software update. With the Symbian Anna update, Nokia fulfilled quite a few requests that included minor UI tweaks, and added exposure compensation control. Now, Nokia has released another camera software update for the N8 via its Betalabs website.
The update mainly brings two new features to the N8 – 30fps video recording and continuous Auto-focus. While the increase in fps will give all the videos shot with the phone a smoother feel, the continuous auto-focus feature means users can shoot a video from as close as 10cm to infinity. Along with these two features, the update will also add a persistent viewfinder grid to the video mode, along with making it persistent in camera mode as well.
The camera software update is available for all N8 running Symbian Anna. The update can be downloaded from Nokia’s Betalabs website.
Making Incompatible FireFox Addons Work In Aurora and Nightly
Sometimes, I just feel, Firefox is a bit too orthodox, you need to restart after almost installing any add-on and the add ons that work in the stable version may not work in the newer beta versions.
Bloggers like me would definitely want to try Aurora or Nightly builds but actually none of the add ons work in these builds. But fortunately, there’s a method to make any add-on work even in testing builds of Firefox.
Making incompatible add ons work in Aurora and Nightly
Initially, when you install Aurora or Nightly, it’ll check for compatible add ons, if any. After installing, go to the Add ons manager and it’ll show the incompatible add ons there.
- Now, head on to Add ons store and get the Add-on Compatibility Checker.
- Install it and after restarting Firefox, it will start compatibility checking tests, and after the tests are over (takes not more than 10 seconds), you need to restart once again.
- Now, in the Add ons manager you can enable all the incompatible add ons (see image below)
- You can also help the Mozilla team by sending them feedback about how the add on works in the testing versions of Firefox. For that, click on Compatibility > Select between This add-on still works and This add on no longer works.
Do you use Firefox Aurora or Nightly? What are your views on them?

How to send self destructing Emails?
Remember the sequence in Mission Impossible 2 where the lead character receives a message telling him of his mission which self destructs a few seconds later on listening to the message. Can we do this with emails?
Yes we can. I found Destructing Message a web service which does exactly that. It allows you to send email anonymously to a email address you want.
There are various reasons you might want to send such an email. This email seems to be a totally secure way to send a anonymous email. Also it’s impossible to keep the message around for later reference as it get deleted. There are many other services which offer such self destructing email services but most requite you to sign-up and register.
So try out DestructingMessage and do let me know your opinions through your comments.

- It is quite easy as the screen-shot can show you. You can either create a self-destructing link with a message or an email.
- I could choose the message to destruct within 15 seconds as a minimum to a 5 minutes maximum.
- The email is sent to the addressee but message is not show but a link is given to the person. Once you visit the link you can view the message and a counter counts down the seconds when the message will self destruct.

Download Mozilla Firefox 6 Final For Windows,Linux and Mac Now
If you’ve been eager to download the final version of Firefox 6, you might be happy to know that it’s already available on Mozilla’s servers and you can download it before the official release that is scheduled to roll out next week.
This new release includes several minor improvements that might not be noticeable to the naked eye: indeed, there are no major user interface changes or a revamped feature set, at least for the common user. Yet, after using the browser for a few minutes, you might immediately notice speed improvements of about 20% according to Mozilla itself, as well as significantly reduced memory consumption.
For developers, however, there are quite a few interesting additions. The Developer menu has been updated for the first time since Firefox 4, with a link to Scratchpad; a new built-in tool that allows developers to execute JavaScript code in real-time.
There’s also a new Get Mode Tools option which links to a whole range of developer oriented extensions, such as Firebug, Stylish and others you’re likely familiar with if you’re a developer.
You might be wondering why there’s already a major new version of Firefox, since Firefox 5 was released just a few months ago. This is due to Mozilla’s faster release schedule, which was introduced earlier this year in order to keep up with competitors: now, major releases will take place every few months instead of an year or so. Did we mention that Google Chrome is already on version 13?
Firefox began its rise in 2004 when it stole much of Internet Explorer’s market share with then-innovative features such as tabbed browsing a reasonably standards-compliant engine. In late 2008, Google Chrome, which included a smarter user interface, WebKit as its engine and a much faster update cycle, was released. This unexpected move forced Mozilla to adjust Firefox in order to make it more competitive, which culminated in the release of Firefox 4 earlier this year which included several of the improvements previously exclusive to Chrome, such as a similar minimalistic user interface.
Keep in mind that there’s a small chance that this allegedly “final” build is updated before it’s released to the public next week, yet that’s very unlikely unless major issues are found. While the welcome page still mentions “Firefox 6 Beta”, don’t be fooled, Mozilla just hasn’t updated said page yet. If you’re a Firefox fan, then go ahead and get Firefox 6, you won’t be disappointed.

Facebook Messenger for BlackBerry Will Be Released Soon
Facebook Messenger for iPhone and Android was released a couple of days back which is a standalone app for messaging to your Facebook friends and mobile contacts.
This app is a direct competitor to BlackBerry Messenger and WhatsApp (both of them used on BlackBerry a lot), and now Facebook wants to dominate that area as well.
Messenger is available on iPhone and Android devices, and will soon be available on Blackberries. To get the app, search for “Facebook Messenger” in your phone’s app store.
No release period or dates have been given, but we believe the app is still in development and will be released soon. Even if you don’t have Facebook Messenger on BlackBerry, you can still reply to messages from Chat, Messages on Facebook website or text messages.

PayPal Rolls Out Autowithdrawl Of Funds For Indian Users
If you are based in India and have been using PayPal for quite some time, you might be aware of the new PayPal law for Indian users – brought in effect from March 1st 2011.
According to the rule:
1. Any balance in and all future payments into your PayPal account may not be used to buy goods or services and must be transferred to your bank account in India within 7 days from the receipt of confirmation from the buyer in respect of the goods or services.
2. Export-related payments for goods and services into your PayPal account may not exceed US$500 per transaction.
This law was put forward after Reserve bank of India laid out a couple of new guidelines for all organizations that participate in the transaction and storage of money, whether online or offline.
Short answer is that after March 1st, 2011, no Indian user could buy anything using the money stored in their PayPal account and they have to mandatorily withdraw all the money to their bank within 7 days. If anyone fails to withdraw, the money will automatically be refunded to the sender.
2. If you don’t have a credit card linked with your PayPal account, you won’t be able to buy anything online. Worst thing is that you won’t be able to pay your hosting fees and any online bills because after March 1st, PayPal requires a credit card for all outgoing payments from your account. This came as a shock to Indian PayPal users like me who don’t have a credit card and they used to pay their bills from the money they obtained from Freelancing or by providing other online services.
If you have only one bank account added to your PayPal account, it will be made the default option for auto withdrawal of funds. However, if you have multiple bank accounts added and verified, you can choose to which bank the funds should be withdrawn automatically.
This is an Indian regulatory requirement and applies to all PayPal users in India. Which means, there is no option to opt out of PayPal auto withdrawal system.

Some Consequences Of The New PayPal Law Enforced On Indians
1. If you go on a vacation for two weeks and remain offline during that time, chances are that any money received on your PayPal account will automatically be returned to the sender.2. Auto withdraw Funds From PayPal to Your Bank Account
Looks like PayPal has loosened some grip from Indian users and has rolled out an update in its fund withdrawal system. You can now enable auto withdrawal of PayPal funds to your Bank account by logging into PayPal and going to Profile > Add /Edit bank account. If you have only one bank account added to your PayPal account, it will be made the default option for auto withdrawal of funds. In it’s FAQ page, PayPal says
Your PayPal balance is auto withdrawn to your local bank account in India daily. You can check your bank account within 5-7 working days after your funds have been auto withdrawn from your PayPal account.
Both iPhone 5 And ‘Simplified iPhone 4′ Due In October, Claims A New Report From China
After several reports pointing to a low-end iPhone set to be released this fall, a new source is now suggesting that along with the iPhone 5 we’ll see a “simplified iPhone 4”, as reported by the Chinese website Sohu.com
According to the report, Apple has reached an agreement with China Telecom, China’s state-owned mobile carrier, to bring two devices to the country: the iPhone 5 and a lower-end iPhone, allegedly similar to the iPhone 4, around “the end of October”. As claimed by the source, and as speculated by us many times, the lower-end iPhone model will be cheaper and most likely targeted at developing and emerging markets, such as China:
The lower-end iPhone will reportedly be similar to the iPhone 4, which has been for sale for over a year, although we don’t yet know much about its hardware or software. According to previous reports on the matter, however, we would guess that this low-end smartphone will be an iPhone 4 with improved internals and perhaps slightly cheaper plastic casing, as opposed to the iPhone 4’s glass enclosure, in order to reduce manufacturing costs, and therefore the price.
This report also, once again, sparks up the debate over whether the next iPhone will be released in September or October, since the source points to an October release, at least in China. I believe, as we have speculated previously, that the US release will take place sometime in September with an international release in October, since the iPhone 5 has allegedly reached final testing stages. The iPhone 5 is expected to be announced by Apple at the company’s traditional music and iPod event in September and released a few weeks later.

A more economical version of iPhone to target a broader customer base in developing countries such as China, allowing for an expanded market opportunity.Apple’s current solution to make the iPhone available to a greater number of customers is to simply sell the previous-generation device for a lower price. While the iPhone 4 has been available for a year, Apple keeps manufacturing the nearly two-year-old iPhone 3GS and selling it for $99 instead of its original price of $199, but now the supply of the iPhone 3GS is dwindling drastically. This approach has its obvious shortcomings, including the device’s aging hardware that developers and Apple itself will be forced to support as long as the device is sold.

The Android Story
Mozilla might be planning a new OS to challenge the rise of Android but fact is it is one of the most widely adopted mobile OS platforms and it is open-source. Android was formed in 2003, while it was acquired by Google in 2005. From there onwards there was no looking back and it is widely known to be the most used mobile platform in the world.
