Last year, Tata Docomo and Reliance launched their 3G services in India. This month, Airtel is expected to join the bandwagon. And now, Aircel announced that, the company will launch their 3G services in the next 40 to 60 days. It means that, the Aircel customers can enjoy 3G services on their 3G enabled smartphones from late February or early March
We are planning to launch our 3G Mobile and Data services across 13 telecom circles where we have got the licences and 3G spectrum in another 40 to 60 days. Moreover, Aircel will be one of the first telecom operator in the country to usher into the fourth generation era. We are planning to start 4G /Broadband Wirelss Access (BWA) trials by the first or second quarter of the next financial year i.e. April 2011. The BWA-4G Services will be rolled out by December 2011 or January 2012 in 8 telecom circles,” said Mallikarjuna Rao, CTO, Aircel Ltd.
Aircel has won 3G license for 13 telecom circles in India – Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kolkata, Kerala, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh (East), West Bengal, Jammu & Kashmir, Bihar, Orissa, Assam and North East. Aircel has also bagged Broadband Wireless Access (BWA- 4G) license for 8 telecom circles – Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu (including Chennai), West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Assam, North-East, Jammu & Kashmir.
Until now, only Tata Docomo and Reliance has launched their 3G services in India. Airtel, Idea and S-Tel are expected to launch their 3G services this month. And finally, Aircel and Vodafone will launch their 3G services from late February or early March.
