Official Press Release:
SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA–(Marketwire – 09/27/10) – BlackBerry DEVCON 2010 -
Editors Note: There is a video and two photos available with this Press Release.
Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ:RIMM – News)(TSX:RIM – News) today redefined the possibilities for mobile computing with the unveiling of its new professional-grade BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet and BlackBerry® Tablet OS.
Perfect for either large organizations or an "army of one", the BlackBerry PlayBook is designed to give users what they want, including uncompromised web browsing, true multitasking and high performance multimedia, while also providing advanced security features, out-of-the-box enterprise support and a breakthrough development platform for IT departments and developers. The incredibly powerful and innovative BlackBerry PlayBook is truly a game-changing product in the growing tablet marketplace.
"RIM set out to engineer the best professional-grade tablet in the industry with cutting-edge hardware features and one of the world’s most robust and flexible operating systems," said Mike Lazaridis, President and Co-CEO at Research In Motion. "The BlackBerry PlayBook solidly hits the mark with industry leading power, true multitasking, uncompromised web browsing and high performance multimedia."
The Tablet You’ll Want to Take Everywhere
This beautifully designed and incredibly powerful tablet is ultra portable, ultra thin and super convenient for both work and play. Measuring less than half an inch thick and weighing less than a pound, the BlackBerry PlayBook features a vivid 7" high resolution display that looks and feels great in your hand. With such a unique mix of utility, performance and portability, you’ll want to take it everywhere.
The New Benchmark in Tablet Performance
At its heart, the BlackBerry PlayBook is a multitasking powerhouse. Its groundbreaking performance is jointly fueled by a 1 GHz dual-core processor and the new BlackBerry Tablet OS which supports true symmetric multiprocessing. Together, the abundant processing power and highly sophisticated OS enable the BlackBerry PlayBook to provide users with true multitasking and a highly-responsive and fluid touch screen experience for apps and content services.
Uncompromised Web Browsing
With support for Adobe® Flash® Player 10.1, Adobe® Mobile AIR® and HTML-5, the BlackBerry PlayBook provides customers with an uncompromised, high-fidelity web experience and offers them the ability to enjoy all of the sites, games and media on the web. For more than a decade, the mobile industry has worked to bridge the gap between the "real web" and mobile devices through various apps and technologies and, in fact, a significant number of mobile apps today still simply serve as a proxy for web content that already exists on the web. The BlackBerry PlayBook closes that gap and brings the real, full web experience to mobile users while also opening new and more exciting opportunities for developers and content publishers.
High Performance Multimedia
The BlackBerry PlayBook features premium multimedia features to support high-quality mobile experiences. It includes dual HD cameras for video capture and video conferencing that can both record HD video at the same time, and an HDMI-out port for presenting one’s creations on external displays. The BlackBerry PlayBook also offers rich stereo sound and a media player that rivals the best in the industry.
BlackBerry Integration
For those BlackBerry PlayBook users who carry a BlackBerry smartphone(i), it will also be possible to pair their tablet and smartphone using a secure Bluetooth® connection. This means they can opt to use the larger tablet display to seamlessly and securely view any of the email, BBM™, calendar, tasks, documents and other content that resides on (or is accessible through) their smartphone. They can also use their tablet and smartphone interchangeably without worrying about syncing or duplicating data. This secure integration of BlackBerry tablets and smartphones is a particularly useful feature for those business users who want to leave their laptop behind.
Enterprise Ready
Thanks to the seamless and secure Bluetooth pairing experience and the highly secure underlying OS architecture, the BlackBerry PlayBook is enterprise ready and compatible (out-of-the-box) with BlackBerry® Enterprise Server. When connected over Bluetooth, the smartphone content is viewable on the tablet, but the content actually remains stored on the BlackBerry smartphone and is only temporarily cached on the tablet (and subject to IT policy controls). With this approach to information security, IT departments can deploy the BlackBerry PlayBook to employees out-of-the-box without worrying about all the security and manageability issues that arise when corporate data is stored on yet another device.
QNX Neutrino Reliability
The BlackBerry Tablet OS is built upon the QNX® Neutrino® microkernel architecture, one of the most reliable, secure and robust operating system architectures in the world. Neutrino has been field hardened for years and is being used to support mission-critical applications in everything from planes, trains and automobiles to medical equipment and the largest core routers that run the Internet. The new BlackBerry Tablet OS leverages and builds upon the many proven strengths of this QNX Neutrino architecture to support a professional grade tablet experience and to redefine the possibilities for mobile computing.
An OS Built for Developers
The Neutrino based microkernel architecture in the BlackBerry Tablet OS delivers exceptional performance, high scalability, Common Criteria EAL 4+ security, and support for industry standard tools that are already familiar to hundreds of thousands of developers. The OS is fully POSIX compliant enabling easy portability of C-based code, supports Open GL for 2D and 3D graphics intensive applications like gaming, and will run applications built in Adobe Mobile AIR as well as the new BlackBerry® WebWorks™ app platform announced today (which will allow apps to be written to run on BlackBerry PlayBook tablets as well as BlackBerry smartphones with BlackBerry® 6). The BlackBerry Tablet OS will also support Java enabling developers to easily bring their existing BlackBerry 6 Java applications to the BlackBerry Tablet OS environment.
Key features and specifications of the BlackBerry PlayBook include:
– 7" LCD, 1024 x 600, WSVGA, capacitive touch screen with full multi-touch
and gesture support
– BlackBerry Tablet OS with support for symmetric multiprocessing

11.6-inch MacBook Air is Releasing this Fall ?
An Apple netbook? Say it isn’t so! While netbooks tend to fall in the 8-10” screen-size category, it would be a little foolish not to consider 11-inchers as netbooks. I, personally, believe that any laptop of screen size < 13” and not having a CD-ROM is to be considered as a netbook.
Got that? Now let’s move on to the topic at hand here. DigiTimes is claiming that Apple manufacturing partner Quanta will be shipping 400,000-500,000 MacBooks before the end of this year (possibly before holiday season). This, of course, suggests that the announcement of the purported 11.6” MacBook (Air or otherwise) will be announced in the very near future.
Quanta has reportedly landed orders for 11.6-inch MacBooks from Apple. Shipments of 11.6-inch MacBooks are expected to top 400,000-500,000 units in 2010.
How likely or unlikely is this? We really can’t say. While the MacBook was updated last May and MacBook Pro recently in April, the MacBook Air hasn’t been updated for more than 15 months! It would seem likely for the Air to get an upgrade, but personally speaking, the MacBook and MacBook Pro are quite some time away before they get a proper upgrade. But then again, you just never know!

Facebook Secretly Developing a Phone to the Rival iPhone and Android
I find this a little hard to believe but Michael Arrington (of TechCrunch fame) says that the world’s biggest social network – Facebook – is now secretly building up a proprietary phone whose features will revolve entirely around the network. Hard to believe, but one must keep in mind that Arrington was the one who broke the news of a Google Phone (now known as the Nexus One).
In his post, Arrington says:
Facebook is building a mobile phone, says a source who has knowledge of the project. Or rather, they’re building the software for the phone and working with a third party to actually build the hardware. While Android does integrate Facebook into contacts, Facebook wants a phone which will integrate at core level with their insanely popular network. For now, nobody – except maybe the higher-ups at Facebook, maybe – know how the phone looks like. Or when it will be announced or how much it will cost. A holiday season launch date wouldn’t be such a bad idea, though.
Specifically, Facebook wants to integrate deeply into the contact list and other core functions of the phone. It can only do that if it controls the operating system. But we do have a little idea of how it will work. Things like taking a photo and uploading to Facebook will be a simple three-step process: snap, caption, upload. All your FB friends will be in the contacts list with their photos, videos, updates, links etc. Updating a status would be done directly from homescreen. Things of such nature.
With over 500 million users, they have quite a number of people of different demographics to target. The phone would most probably be dirt-cheap so that maximum number of people can use it.
We must keep in mind that Google Android already does most of this. You upload photos directly from your camera via the sharing tool. If enabled, all your FB contacts integrate with your own contacts and finally, stuff like updating directly from your homescreen and viewing photo albums from the Gallery app are already there!
iPhone too in a way does some sort of Facebook integration with contacts via the popular “Facebook for iPhone” app.
The only thing that might make a Facebook phone sell nicely would be cheap price. A 25-50$ phone that integrates Facebook completely wouldn’t a bad deal if you’re in the 12-17 age demographic.
You can read more about the Facebook phone, including the names of the alleged people involved in its development in TechCrunch’s post here.

MP3 is current generation's music storage/sharing format so if you have Audio CD's and would like to convert them to MP3 this post is for you. Halo Reach Biggest Game in Microsoft’s History,Pulls in $200,000k on First Day !
Microsoft VP Phil Spencer said,
[Halo: Reach] is the biggest game Microsoft has ever released. Every major installment has grown in scope and popularity, firmly cementing the ‘Halo’ franchise as one of the most popular entertainment properties in the world over the past decade.
Compared to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s mind-assploding $310M sales in its first 24hrs, $200M might not seem much but you have keep in mind that Reach is exclusive to Xbox 360 whilst MW2 was not. Compare this to three-day earnings of Iron Man 2 and Toy Story 3 at $133.6M and $109M (respectively) and you can just see, nay, feel just how colossal Halo: Reach is. Based on sales alone, Microsoft is calling it the biggest entertainment launch of the year!
While Reach is Bungie’s last Halo game after which they will move on to a new franchise, Microsoft will continue pumping out more games from the Halo universe.

Download Internet Explorer 9 Now !
Microsoft has finally taken the wraps off its shiny new web browser: Internet Explorer 9. The beta version of IE 9 is now available for download for users running both 32 and 64-bit versions of Windows 7 and Vista.
The all new Internet Explorer 9 also adds full support for HTML5 standard. It takes the experience to a whole new level with all the graphics rendering taking place on the GPU level for HTML5 via the Microsoft DirectX technology. IE 9 has been re-written from the ground up and it takes advantage of the GPU power for all page rendering, and further enables web developers to exploit this power in ways they already understand (CSS, DHTML, JavaScript).
What are apps, other than tiny colorful icons that provide rich, interactive experiences on mobile devices? Think about your iPhone’s New York Times or Facebook app. They don’t feel like an installed program–they’re much less clunky–nor a website, which is anything but native. Apps are some lighter in-between. Now Microsoft is trying to bring that same concept to Windows 7.
Internet Explorer 9
Internet Explorer 9 introduces tons of new features, including the new option to pin web apps on Windows 7 taskbar, full support for HTML5 standard, graphics rendering on the GPU level via Microsoft DirectX technology, completely revamped UI and more.

Google’s Color Changing Logo and What the Company Is About to Announce?
When you arrive on the search giant homepage today, you’ll be greeted with a gray Google doodle. When you start typing a search query though, the color magically returns to Google’s iconic logo. This follows yesterday’s logo, a collection of animated particles that react to the movement of the cursor.
As many in the media have noted, this week’s series of logos aren’t just Googlers having fun; it’s also a big hint for what the company will be unveiling at a press event occurring Wednesday morning in San Francisco.
If today’s logo is any indication, Google is about to unveil a real-time search overhaul.
This is not about adding Twitter or Facebook results to Google search though; this is about being able search results that change as you type. Google has been testing this feature recently. Also likely to be announced tomorrow: AJAX-powered search results.
Click here for Google's US homepage
Google Logo Turns into Animated Particles
The logo is animated, and reacts to the pointer of your mouse: move it closer to the logo, and the particles will disperse, “running away” from the mouse pointer.
Unlike some other Google doodles, this one is unclickable, so we don’t know for sure what’s the story behind it. It could be Google’s birthday which falls on either September 4th, September 7th, or September 27th (depending when the folks at Google decide to eat cake), but Google usually celebrates it on the last date.
If Google indeed chose September 7th as the date to celebrate its 12th birthday, well, happy birthday, Google! If there’s a different story behind today’s animated logo, we’re sure we’ll hear about it soon.

How to Install Mac OS X Snow Leopard in VirtualBox on Windows 7
Step 1: Download and install the latest version of VirtualBox for Windows.
Step 2: Start VirtualBox and click on “New” button. This will start a wizard that will help you create a new VM in VirtualBox.
Step 3: Name your VM “OSX” and select “Mac OS X” from Operating System dropdown menu, and “Mac OS X Server” from Version dropdown menu.
Step 4: Assign your VM some Ram in megabytes. For this tutorial, I have allotted the max 1500MB of Ram.
Step 5: Now create a new hard disk for your VM, which depending on your needs should be around 20GB in size. If you use Dynamic option, it will expand on use while Static option will be fixed to the size you allotted. Select the option which best fits your needs and click on Next to finish the wizard.
Step 6: Now click on “Settings” and select “System” from the left pane and then uncheck the option for “Enable EFI (special OSes only)” in the right as shown in the screenshot below.
Step 7: Now select “Storage” from the left pane, and then select “Empty” found under the OSX.vdi. Now click on the folder with the green arrow on the right.
On this window, click Add (Plus sign on 3 CD’s) at the top. Then find and add the OSX86 iso you downloaded earlier. Now highlight it and click Select button at the bottom. Then click OK and hit the main Start button to start your VM.
Step 8: Once the VM starts booting, hit F8 and type -v at the boot prompt so that you can see what exactly went wrong if something does go wrong. All the services will run and eventually you should come to the language screen. Choose your language and then click next. If you are unable to move your mouse around then hit Right-Ctrl + I. Click Continue and Agree, and then start Disk Utility found in Utilities menu at the top.
Step 9: At this screen highlight 20GB VBOX HARDDISK. Then click erase at the right and Name it what you want in the name box and then click on “Erase…” button to erase the virtual disk. It shouldn’t take long. Once done, quit the Disk Utility so that you return back to the installer.
Now simply select the highlighted drive as shown below and click continue.
Step 10: Now click on Customize at the bottom left, and check the following:
For AMD Users:
Any Updates included at the top.
Drop down Kernels and choose Legacy kernel.
AMD option below System support.
For Intel Users:
Any Updates included at the top.
Drop down bootloaders and check the newest Chameleon.
Drop down Kernels and choose Legacy kernel.
Now click Done and hit the Install button to start the installation.
Step 11: As soon as it says installation finished and starts counting down to restart, press the Right-Ctrl and then click on Devices at the top and hit CD/DVD Devices and click Unmount CD/DVD Device. Then click Machine and Reset to restart the VM. Next you’ll see the Chameleon loader and then OS X will begin to boot.
This is it!! After it boots up, you should now be running full Mac OS X Snow Leopard in VirtualBox under Windows 7 / Vista or XP.
